Maiko Fushimi
Founder & CEO
After spending approximately 13 years abroad, she returned to Japan and graduated from the International School of the Sacred Heart. She was accepted to three U.S. universities—including one ranked within the top 25 nationally—as well as to Keio, Waseda, and Sophia Universities, ultimately enrolling in the Faculty of Policy Management at Keio University. Upon graduation, she joined J.P. Morgan Asset Management, where she served for eight years as the lead analyst for the Japanese equity capital goods sector, engaging in investment research and portfolio management. She later decided to leave the firm to pursue her long-standing aspiration to work in the field of education.Having experienced a wide range of educational environments—including overseas local schools, Japanese public schools, and an international school—she developed a deep appreciation for the richness and diversity of educational philosophies. During university, she worked for four years as one of the top instructors at the English program CATAL, teaching students from elementary school to working professionals. She also served as the lead instructor for Keio New York Academy entrance exam preparation, gaining firsthand insight into the joy of supporting student growth. While at university, she was active in a Japanese-language education research group and visited Jessica Haxhi, then President of the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Through this connection, she taught Japanese language and culture to elementary school students in Connecticut. She herself spent six years in a local school in Alabama beginning in elementary school, an experience that impressed upon her the importance of Japanese-language education in environments without access to Saturday schools or Japanese educational programs. In July 2024, she co-founded KNOWLEDGE BOND, launching an initiative to provide Japanese-language and literacy education to children around the world who need access to high-quality instruction.
